Harry Winks has been 'axed' from Ruud van Nistelrooy's Leicester City squad after a 'heated row' about refusing to compromise on his 100-mile commute.

ToggleAccording to The Telegraph, former Tottenham ace Winks declined a request to stay overnight one day a week at Leicester’s training ground, which led to a confrontation with manager Van Nistelrooy over the international break. The report adds the Dutchman wanted the 29-year-old to stay overnight to aid with preparation, with the squad training in the afternoon and then again the following morning. Amid his efforts to instil discipline into the struggling Foxes, the ex-striker's plea is said to have 'fallen flat' with Winks.

The report adds that it is not yet known if Winks will be available for Monday night's game against Newcastle United but sources suggest the row with Van Nistelrooy was 'heated'. The ex-England international is understood to have his own private reasons for commuting from his Hertfordshire base and on Thursday he announced the birth of his first child, Marlowe.
When Enzo Maresca was in charge at Leicester last season, as he helped them to Championship glory, Winks was reportedly allowed to do the lengthy commute 'without any issues'. It is understood three Leicester players travel more than 90 miles a day to reach the club's Seagrave complex training ground.
It remains to be seen if Winks will return to the starting line-up of relegation strugglers Leicester before the end of the season, as they try to beat the drop.
